Fast & Easy Back of Cabinet & Door Storage Ideas
Raise your hand if you’ve ever wished you had more space in your cupboards and closets? What if I told you finding more space was as easy as opening a door?
I mean that literally: all you need to do is open the cupboard or closet door, and there’s your space!
Today I’m sharing some easy and affordable ways to create more space using the inside of your cupboard and closet doors.
1) Command Hooks
Command hooks are one of the fastest, easiest and most affordable ways to transform the back of doors into valuable extra storage space. Here are some of my favourite ways to use them:
To free up space under the bathroom sink by holding hair appliances.
To keep cleaning brushes and clothes more accessible under kitchen and laundry room sinks.
To avoid shuffling and unstacking pot lids.
In the bedroom and bathroom, they work great to prevent towels, robes and PJs from ending up on the floor.
And in the mudroom or entryway, they can provide homes for items like scarves, umbrellas and bags.

2) Cabinet Door Organizers
Another favourite way to use the vertical space inside cabinet doors is with cabinet door organizers. You can get adhesive ones, ones that screw into the cabinet, or ones that hang over the cabinet door.
Use them to give yourself more storage under the kitchen sink.
The bathroom sink.
Use them to vertically store cutting boards.
Or to provide storage for kitchen wrap and foils.
3) Hanging Shoe Pockets
Great for storing shoes, but there are so many other ways to use this product to make the most of your space. For example, use one to store arts and crafts supplies.
To store office supplies.
To create easy access to seasonal gear like hats, mitts, scarves, sunglasses, sunscreen and the newest addition to our homes, face masks.
Or to keep your cords and chargers untangled and organized
And here’s a bonus tip for you: If you don’t like the idea of the hooks showing over the door when it’s closed, just remove them and use command hooks instead.

4) Over the Door Wire Rack
I have and love this one from ClosetMaid. If you’re near a location of The Container Store, the Elfa is also a great option. Whatever system you get, below are some great ways to use it.
To increase storage in your pantry.
To create a gift wrap station.
To store cleaning supplies.
These racks are also great to store back stock of toiletries.
And it’s a great option in a mudroom or entryway too.
5) As part of your Home Command Centre
Finally, the inside of a cabinet door is a great place to create a command centre for your family.
You can include things like meal plans and grocery lists.
And calendars and schedules.
This creates a space that will keep everyone in the family on the same page without making a lot of visual clutter. For more information on Home Command Centres and how to create your own, click here.
