The dollar store is full or fantastic products to get organized on a budget.  This list is by no means exhaustive.  Rather, it’s the 5 items I turn to most often to keep clients on budget.  So let’s get to it!

#1) Shelf Risers

Shelf risers instantly increase storage, visibility and accessibility and are super easy to add and remove as needed.  Use them in the kitchen, pantry, laundry room, bathroom, and any other cabinet or shelf where you need to create more space.

This one from Dollarama is suitable for most purposes and, at $2.50 each, makes getting organized very affordable.  If you’re planning to store heavier items such as a large stack of dishes, you’ll want to use a sturdier (but still affordable option), such as this.

#2 Bakeware Racks

Just like shelf risers, bakeware racks create vertical storage allowing you to see everything in a glance and quickly grab what you need.  This one from Dollarama is $3.50, and there are so many ways to use it to get organized.

Among the many ways to use it in the kitchen is to vertically store baking sheets, cutting boards, casserole dishes, and cooling racks.  A bakeware rack is fantastic in the closet to organize and display your clutches.  You can also use them to keep wrapping supplies like gift bags, boxes and tissue paper organized and accessible.

Containment isn’t required to get organized, but it does make staying organized easier.  One of the easiest ways to contain is with baskets: they eliminate visual clutter, make retrieval and return of items easy, and establish limits.

Ranging in price from $1.50 to $4.00, these white baskets from Dollarama are great to get organized on a budget.  They’re easy to clean if spills or leaks happen, they come in various sizes, and the white designs are simple, clean and easy to mix and match.

Use these baskets in the kitchen and pantry to store dry goods, snacks, small appliances and spices, among other things.  They’re great in linen closets and bathrooms to store towels, sheets and toiletries and make excellent drawer dividers for clothes.

Like baskets, lidded bins provide containment, but their lids allow you to stack them so you can take advantage of vertical space.  These ones from Dollarama come in various sizes and range from $ for a 3-pack of the small ones to $ for the largest one.

Some of the ways you can use them include storing craft supplies, science sets and small toys like Barbies, action figures and playdough.  They’re also great in linen closets or bathrooms to store product and back stock items.

#5) Drawer Inserts

Corralling and containing items in desk and utility drawers is vital to keeping everything organized, visible and accessible.  For $1.25 each (including a 3 pack of the smallest size), this modular system from Dollarama is a great budget organizing option.

The 4 different-sized components can be arranged in various configurations, allowing you to customize your drawer organization.  And here’s a pro tip for you: if the inserts aren’t a perfect fit in the drawer, use glue dots to keep them in place and use the area left as an additional compartment.
